Fermented Oat and Rose Water Drink
Looking for a unique, refreshing, and slightly tangy drink? This fermented oat and rose water drink combines the wholesome goodness of oats with the delicate floral notes of rose water. Naturally fermented, lightly sweetened with honey, and beautifully garnished with dried rose petals, this beverage is a delightful blend of earthy and floral flavours. Perfect for cooling down on a warm day or as a light, gut-friendly refreshment.
INGREDIENTS
500g oat flakes
1.5l lukewarm water
1 slice of rye bread
1 tablespoon honey
60ml rose water
Edible dried rose petals for garnishing
METHOD
1. Ferment the Oats
Add the oat flakes to a large bowl.
Pour in 1.5L of lukewarm water to help initiate the fermentation process.
Place a slice of rye bread on top—this helps introduce natural yeast for fermentation.
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it sit for 12-14 hours at room temperature.
2. Strain and Simmer
Remove the rye bread slice and discard it.
Scoop out and discard any excess water from the top.
Add 150ml of lukewarm water and mix well.
Strain the oat water into a pot, ensuring no solid oat pieces remain.
Heat over medium heat until it reaches a simmer.
Let it simmer until the liquid reduces by half, stirring occasionally and skimming off any foam that forms.
3. Flavour and Chill
Before turning off the heat, add honey and rose water, stirring well to combine.
Pour the liquid into serving glasses or bottles.
Refrigerate overnight to allow the flavours to develop.
4. Garnish and Serve
Before serving, sprinkle with edible dried rose petals for a beautiful finishing touch.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
