Sesame Soy-Marinated Carrot Ribbons
If you’re looking for a fresh, tangy, and quick-to-make side dish, these Sesame Soy-Marinated Carrot Ribbons are a perfect choice. They’re simple to prepare, full of flavour, and add a lovely crunch to any meal. This light, Asian-inspired dish works wonderfully as a topping for salads, bowls, or even as a flavourful side for your main dish.
INGREDIENTS
1 large carrot
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
100 ml water
METHOD
- Prepare the Carrot
Wash and peel your carrot. Using a vegetable peeler, create thin ribbons by peeling the carrot from top to bottom, making sure each strip is as thin as possible for the best flavour absorption. - Make the Marinade
In an airtight container, mix together the water, soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and minced garlic until well combined. - Marinate the Carrot Ribbons
Add the carrot ribbons to the container with the marinade. Close the container tightly and give it a good shake to ensure all the carrot strips are evenly coated with the marinade. - Refrigerate and Marinate
Place the container in the fridge and let the carrots marinate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavours to fully develop. For even more depth, let them marinate overnight.
These marinated carrot ribbons add a burst of umami with a hint of garlic and sesame—perfect for adding a twist to your dishes. Serve them chilled as a refreshing side, or top them onto your favourite bowls or salads for an instant flavour boost. Enjoy!
