Immune-Boosting Toast

The flu hit hard this year—and I haven’t been spared. After a week of sniffles, chills, and endless cups of tea, I found myself craving something nourishing, soothing, and above all, effortless. So I’ve started a little series I’m calling Flu-Fighting Foods, and this toast is where it all begins.

When you’re under the weather, the idea of cooking anything complex feels like a stretch. That’s why this toast is one of my go-tos. It’s quick to put together, feels comforting, and is loaded with ingredients that support your immune system.

It’s not magic—but it’s pretty close when your body is asking for a little extra love.

Ingredients

1 slice of toasted bread
1 tablespoon of cream cheese (or swap with avocado or peanut butter for variation)
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
A pinch of chili flakes
A pinch of lemon zest, finely grated
1 teaspoon of honey
1 teaspoon of pumpkin seeds (or any seeds you like)
A pinch of poppy seeds

Method

Toast your favourite slice of bread to your preferred crispness.

Spread the cream cheese evenly over the warm toast.

Sprinkle chopped garlic, chili flakes, and fresh lemon zest on top.

Drizzle honey across the surface for a gentle sweetness and sore throat relief.

Finish with a scatter of pumpkin seeds and a pinch of poppy seeds for crunch and added nutrients.

Why This Toast Helps

Each ingredient is chosen for a reason:

Garlic is antibacterial and immune-boosting.

Chili flakes help clear sinuses.

Lemon zest gives a hit of vitamin C.

Honey is soothing for sore throats.

Seeds add minerals and healthy fats for extra fuel.

When you’re feeling low, this toast is a hug on a plate. It’s minimal effort, maximum comfort.
